About
Inner City Swimmer features the story of Jennifer Kyff, a late to the game age group swimmer who missed her chance to reach her full potential. As an adult, she embarked on a swimming odyssey that has spanned over a decade to achieve what she didn’t know was possible.
Jennifer started swimming competitively for the Silver Streaks in the late 80's. Due to an illness in her family she had to leave the Streaks and after a few months started swimming for Roosevelt High School in 1989. She spent time swimming in 20 yard pools at the YMCA and YWCA in South Yonkers. Jennifer dreamed of swimming in a better facility and hoped that one day swimmers in Yonkers would have better conditions to train in. Ironically after a 13 year hiatus she joined Yonkers Masters in 2004 and her dream came true. Starting at the bottom she set out to obtain the same level of fitness she had had in high school.
The blog is written to inspire others to never give up, never give in and know that if your time is not now, it sure can be later.
Currently Kyff holds 19 USMS Top Ten achievements (18 individual and 1 relay). She has medaled in 7 USMS national competitions, has swam nationally and internationally in multiple open water events and has survived the swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco. She is proof that where there is a will there is a way.
As a registered Level 3 USMS Certified Coach Jennifer specializes in technique refinement and enjoys working with adult swimmers who are new to United States Masters Swimming. Jen has a 360° approach to technique instruction and coaching. The clients psychology, physicality, and personal goals are always first in mind. She is available for technique refinement, personal training and crafting workout plans for masters swimmers who have a desire to compete locally and on a national level.
